A Call for Intergenerational Innovation and Justice

Tristan Alston, who writes for The Berkshire Edge, expresses his concern about the environment through the eyes of a young biracial adult.

He cites recent studies, writing how every year, 4.2 million people die, prematurely, as a result of ambient air pollution. "Living in the beautifully-green hills of the Berkshires, we seem to believe that we are sheltered from the effects of climate change."

Alston urges the community to take action - reimagining the local grocers and food systems, looking sustainable alternatives for both energy and consumables, and uniting around a commitment individually, and to one another, to the town and its community members.

Alston recognizes individuals in his article - those that have an inability to accept things the way they are, or remain passive in the face of social and environmental injustices.

The Berkshire Center for Justice (BJC) is the sponsor of the column and calls for a community/social initiative to eliminate use of Styrofoam, and clamshell food containers and plastic film wrap at all grocers in Great Barrington, and throughout Berkshire County. Read the Entire Article
