Helping Communities Tackle the Housing Crisis

The Community Land Trust (CLT), a type of community-led housing, set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes or assets, is now in its tenth year.

CLTs are charitable organisations set up as community benefit societies that serve as long-term stewards of housing. CLTs ensure homes are genuinely affordable and remain affordable forever.

The CLT model, which originates in the US, has expanded in England over the last 10 years. According to a recent research backed by Power to Change, CLTs are planning to build nearly 6,000 community-led homes in the next few years in England alone.

CAF Venturesome's Anne-Helene Sinha writes about their CLT Fund, which offers the only source of early-stage repayable finance for CLTs, which are considered as high risk for most lenders.

Sinha shares an independent research they commissioned, where they find that Fund investees are now confident and have the courage to get started, and they welcomed the financial and technical support that CAF Venturesome's CLT Fund provides.

Sinha adds that CAF Venturesome plans to launch another fund with a wider scope to respond to increasing demand. Read the Entire Article
