Duke Climate Solutions Panel Offers Cautious Hope for a Warming Planet

The billwhich calls for a 28% cut in carbon dioxide emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 and a 50% cut in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levelswas signed by Biden last week in Washington, DC, the Washington Post reports.

It's not clear how much the bill will cost, but Duke University estimates it will be $369 billion over the next 10 years, according to a university press release.

That's more than the cost of the Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in 2009 and is expected to cost another $1.9 trillion over the next 10 years, the Times reports.

"The Biden administration has put a lot of the public purse behind climate in ways that has not been employed form," says a Duke professor who spoke at the university's Research and Innovation Week last week.

"If we can better understand how CO2 moves through concrete, we can hone processes to trap it and make this common building material much more environmentally friendly," she tells the Times, which notes Read the Entire Article
