Rayees Rahman may not be a household name, but he's the winner of a prestigious life-sciences investment competition in the United Arab Emirates.
The 21-year-old won the JP Morgan Life Sciences Innovation Summit in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with his company, Harmonic Discovery, which uses a "generative chemistry platform" to discover and develop therapies for diseases such as cancer, inflammation, and metabolic diseases, per a press release.
The runners-up included Shahrukh Hashmi of the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and Chun-Hao Huang of Algen Biotechnologies, which focuses on using CRISPR and AI to find treatments for cancer and other diseases.
The competition was organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health in partnership with Morgan Asset Management.
"We are thrilled with the level of biotech passion and innovation that we observed at this year's Summit in Abu Dhabi," says JPMorgan's chief investment officer.
"The energy was truly palpable."
